The constitution is so oldschool.

I read the constitution again today. I find it nice to brush up on the roots of our nation and what we supposedly follow.

The most interesting thing that sticks out to me is the amount that the constitution stresses the power of the states to legislate everything that is not specifically defined in the constitution. Article X of the bill of rights pretty clearly states it. This seems to be something that people these days don’t think about, and with good reason.

These days the federal government has so much control of our lives that the very document defining our country has become irrelevant. “It’s just a damn piece of paper!”

I’m all for many of the rights the federal government supports. I just find it silly that it has to be the federal government enforcing it. We could be much more progressive and successful if we would allow some states to fail in legislation, while others progress far beyond. The progressive states could be a haven for those successful and the other states would learn to follow.

I guess it’s just a fundamental belief I have that is reflected in most aspects of my life.

We learn through example. Others that fail to follow progressive examples must be let go and cut off. You can’t save everyone. When you force people to follow something they don’t understand, they will never learn.

But I guess that makes me crazy. And what particularly makes me extreme in the political spectrum is that I actually believe in that old piece of paper written up over 200 years ago. What can I say? I’m oldschool.

Live free or die.
